Welcome To Cartagena de Indias
It is, for many reasons, the principal tourist destination of Colombia. Tourists come from all over the world to visit this walled city on the Caribbean Sea, attracted by the fame of the hotels, restaurants and clubs; for its colonial history, or the beaches and islands of the Colombian coast.
A good tour begins in Cartagena de Indias Clock Door, the only entrance to the walled city that was reinforced to protect it from attacks by pirates and privateers who knew of the riches of the Spanish crown to be kept here.
The highest point in Cartagena stands this convent. A beautiful image of La Virgen de la Candelaria, the patroness of the city, is in the convent's chapel, and there's a charming flower-filled patio.
During the Colonial era, this house served as a "court" tribune to condemn anyone whom the Church saw as an enemy. Instruments of torture, along with documents, explanations and paintings about the Inquisition.
Is a mud volcano located in northern Colombia in the municipality of Santa Catalina. A local tourist destination, popular for its alleged healing mud-bath, it receives most of its visitors from nearby Cartagena.
The Castillo San Felipe de Barajas is a fortress in the city of Cartagena, Colombia. The castle is located on the Hill of San Lazaro. It was built by the Spanish during the colonial era.
